Anti-clockwise on the M25: Leave at Junction 20, following the signs to Watford.

At the first large roundabout take the second exit (A411 Hempstead Road towards Watford). After half a mile, you’ll see the entrance to The Grove on your right-hand side.

It’s easy to reach The Grove via national and international flights. Heathrow airport is 30 minutes away, Luton 30 minutes, Gatwick 60 minutes, and Stansted 60 minutes. Either catch a cab outside the airport terminal or book a private car in advance through the hotel.

It’s just 20 minutes from London Euston to Watford Junction, which also has key mainline train services to Birmingham New Street and Manchester Piccadilly. It’s a 10 minute journey by taxi from the station to The Grove – either jump in a cab outside the station or phone ahead to arrange for a private car to meet you. Chiltern Railways run a service from London Marylebone to Rickmansworth station. A taxi or private car (booked with the hotel) will take about 15 minutes.

Lisa BrownBy Lisa Brown

This luxury mansion house is set in 300 acres of woodland and has magical gardens, an award winning golf course (Obama was famously spotted on the course recently!) and a contemporary spa.

The Grove, otherwise known as London’s country estate, twists traditional elegance with a quirky modern edge. It’s both child and romance friendly, with enough space to embrace one, and avoid the other.

The award-winning Sequoia Spa is set within a tranquil garden a short stroll from the house. The spa boosts a top notch, state-of-the art spa with a stunning 22 metre, black mosaic pool, complete with an ozone filtration system.

Facilities include a poolside Jacuzzi, steam and sauna rooms, a saline vitality jet pool, two fitness studios, a well-equipped gym and twelve Asian-inspired treatment rooms with indoor and outdoor relaxation areas.

The Treatment

The English Rose Reviver is a restoring and rejuvenating treatment inspired by The Grove’s walled garden. The treatment began with a relaxing foot ritual followed by an energising rosehip seed and rosewood ESPA body scrub. Warm rose geranium and palmerosa essential oils were then poured on to the skin in preparation for a sweeping Balinese massage. A scalp massage with a pink clay and watercress hair mask completed the treatment. I left feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and smelling of roses!

Other Treatments

The Hollywood High Definition Facial – this signature treatment works to combat fine lines and wrinkles. Delivered with celebrated Spanish brand Natura Bissé’s high performance Diamond skincare range, this facial is specifically designed to energise and brighten dull skin.

To Stay

We stayed in a Deluxe Double; spacious and contemporary in style with a king size bed, roll-top bath and walk-in shower. A seating area leads to a small balcony overlooking the formal gardens and mansion house. The White Company products, fresh coffee and iPod docking stations in all rooms.

On Arrival

Homemade chocolates and fresh fruit.

To Eat

We dined at The Glasshouse – the buffet restaurant serves an extensive range of international dishes. There’s an impressive seafood counter and a great selection of tapas, salads and charcuteries, as well as main course options such as steamed lemon sole and herb crusted cod. You’ll also find a wonderful cheese counter and delicious deserts.

Colette’s for formal dining (dress code applies).

The Stables for laid back lunches.

Don’t Miss

A trip to the Urban Beach, which is hidden behind the giraffe in the Victorian walled garden.
