Kalari Rasayana, A Centre for Healing by CGH Earth Ayurveda
Kollam, India
Nestled in lush natural surroundings and shaded by dense coconut groves, Kalari Rasayana is CGH Earth Ayurveda’s NABH-accredited centre, dedicated to the practice of classical, traditional Kerala Ayurvedic treatment. Located in the tranquil village of Paravoor in southern Kerala, the retreat offers a return to a slower, gentler pace of life – where fishermen still use age-old methods, and the calls of kingfishers, cormorants, and mynahs fill the air, inviting an inimitable sense of holistic wellbeing.
At Kalari Rasayana, each treatment is tailored to the individual, based on their body constitution (Dosha) and specific medical conditions. Deep detoxification therapies are supported by both internal and external Ayurvedic herbal remedies, along with restorative practices such as gentle yoga, meditation, and breathwork – all working in harmony to restore vitality and promote healing from within.
The living spaces are thoughtfully designed to coexist with nature. Set amidst open grounds with views of the backwaters and coconut-fringed islands, the environment is calming and conducive to the healing process. A nurturing and attentive medical team supports each guest’s journey, while the peaceful setting encourages quiet adherence to prescribed treatment plans, with minimal distractions beyond the beauty of the natural world.
Ayurveda’s influence extends to the dining experience, where every meal is carefully planned by the doctors according to each individual’s Dosha and Prakriti. The cuisine is Satvic, pure vegetarian, and made with natural, organically grown ingredients. The chef works closely with the medical team to ensure that each healing menu is not only therapeutic, but also flavourful and nutritionally balanced, supporting the guest’s health goals throughout their stay.
Ayurveda
Rooted in the Ayurvedic principle of treating the source rather than the symptom, Kalari Rasayana adopts a strictly classical approach that addresses not only the physical body, but also emotional and mental wellbeing.
The clinic features 11 naturally cooled, en suite treatment rooms, where patients are gently guided through their personalised programmes. Education is an essential part of the process – patients are informed about the therapies they receive, fostering a sense of empowerment throughout their healing journey.
Kalari Rasayana offers comprehensive detoxification programmes based on the classical Panchakarma Chikitsa, typically lasting between 21 and 28 days. This intensive cleansing process removes toxins through therapeutic treatments such as Vamana (induced emesis), two forms of medicated enema, and nasal purging. These are supported by a carefully tailored Satvic diet that restores internal balance and strengthens overall vitality.
For body purification, the Sodhana Chikitsa programme spans 14 to 21 days. It begins with a detailed diagnosis of the guest’s Dosha (body constitution) by an Ayurvedic doctor, followed by a personalised treatment plan and dietary guidance. The process is complemented by restorative yoga, guided meditation, and Satsangs – cultural discourses designed to deepen spiritual understanding and promote inner harmony.
A more targeted 14- to 28-day programme is available for those seeking support with weight management. After a detox phase, treatments focus on reducing excess cellulite, boosting metabolism, and enhancing immunity.
The Manashanthi Chikitsa programme addresses stress-related concerns and is designed to relieve the cumulative effects of mental strain – such as insomnia, poor concentration, fatigue, and recurring headaches.
For those seeking rejuvenation, Rasayana Chikitsa is a holistic programme aimed at boosting immunity and restoring vitality. A two-week detox phase is followed by treatments that balance the Doshas and help arrest the degeneration of cells and tissues. This programme is particularly beneficial for post-COVID rehabilitation and broader preventative healthcare.
Following an in-depth one-to-one consultation on arrival, Kalari Rasayana’s dedicated team of Ayurvedic doctors and practitioners are able to tailor treatments to a wide range of specific conditions. These include diabetes management, gastrointestinal and cardiovascular disorders, respiratory conditions, infertility, post-cancer care (including support after chemotherapy), post-addiction recovery, chronic skin conditions, and musculoskeletal issues.
