In Derbyshire, in the heart of the East Midlands, The Spa at Breedon Priory is an award-winning day spa with a difference. A purpose-built, glass-fronted destination spa, the contemporary barn-style building is set within 24 acres of rolling countryside. It has enormous windows, which flood the spa with natural light, and everything about the design oozes peace and tranquillity.
Opened in summer 2021, The Spa at Breedon Priory revolves around guests’ wellbeing. The Wellbeing Suite boasts an array of thermal experiences, or you can head to the infinity-edged relaxation pool in the spa garden. For a special treat, hire The Hideaway – a private VIP experience separate from the rest of the spa.
Every stay is full of little touches that make all the difference, from the welcome cup of hot chocolate and water cleansing ritual to the ice-cold grapes you’re given after a treatment to help you rejuvenate. Plus the staff are next level, constantly on hand to make every spa day serenely relaxing. There’s a maximum of 40 guests at any time, so the spa never feels overcrowded; you can always find a quiet corner to yourself.
The Spa
The Spa at Breedon Priory’s wonderful Wellbeing Suite is packed with facilities and well worth a visit prior to your treatment. The wellness ethos revolves around balance, encouraging each guest to find equilibrium for their individual needs, their wellbeing and their state of mind. Facilities are set up to encourage this balance and include a Himalayan salt sauna with a large window overlooking the spa garden as well as a herbal sauna and steam room, juxtaposed by hot-to-cold experience showers and an ice fountain.
There’s a comfortable, light-filled relaxation area that leads to the breathtaking Spa Garden. As well as two sunken infinity pools with views over the landscaped gardens – one with massage jets and swan neck fountains – there’s a covered snug with a firepit and cosy blankets, plus a lounger-flanked lake at the far end. Upstairs there’s the Slumber Room, a dedicated post-treatment relaxation area with curved loungers made extra private by flowing divider screens.
If you want to take your spa experience up a notch, consider booking the Hideaway – a VIP private spa experience for two. It has its own outdoor hot tub, firepit, mini bar, private lounge and double treatment room. You can order lunch, afternoon tea and drinks direct to the Hideaway.
In six treatment rooms, named after resident trees, the spa offers an array of experiences using products by Temple Spa, Tribe517, Proverb Skin and Germaine de Capuccini. The focus is on holistic, naturally inspired treatments for both mind and body wellness. Manis and pedis are provided by Pinks Boutique. The Spa also partners with Amethyst Trust to offer accredited Cancer Care treatments for those on a cancer journey.

To Stay
As a day spa, The Spa at Breedon Priory doesn’t have its own accommodation, but it has partnered with local B&B Breedon Hall Country House, a charming Georgian manor that’s just a five-minute drive away.
Breedon Hall has five immaculate en-suite bedrooms, each individually styled with a cosy charm, as well as Meynell Mews in the two acres of private grounds. This is a row of self-catering townhouse-style cottages, each sleeping four, making them perfect for groups of friends or families. Guests who have visited The Spa at Breedon Priory receive a 10% discount at Breedon Hall.
To Eat
The Terrace Restaurant looks out onto the decking and spa garden, and the sweepings grounds beyond through floor-to-ceiling windows. Drinks and snacks are available throughout the day, and in the evening it serves a menu using seasonal, regional ingredients.
The restaurant décor is beautifully calming and the food won’t disappoint. The Terrace Restaurant also serves breakfast with bubbles and, later in the day, a selection of cocktails with a twist.
