Elegance and opulence are the hallmarks of the Marbella Club Hotel. Nestled along Marbella’s renowned Golden Mile, this beachfront sanctuary seamlessly blends traditional Andalusian charm with contemporary luxury. Established in 1954 by Prince Alfonso as his private residence, the hotel has evolved into one of Europe’s most sought-after beach resorts, attracting aristocrats, celebrities, and discerning travellers alike.

Far from ostentatious, the Marbella Club’s particular breed of luxury embodies the essence of ‘lusso naturale’. Set within lush subtropical gardens, the resort offers a tranquil retreat while remaining within easy reach of Marbella’s historic Old Town and the vibrant Puerto Banús marina.

The Spa

The hotel’s Thalasso Spa is nothing short of a wellbeing temple. State-of-the-art facilities include an indoor dynamic seawater pool, steam rooms, saunas, a solarium, and 12 treatment rooms offering a range of therapies inspired by the healing properties of the sea.

In its luxurious treatment rooms, the spa utilizes high-end products to deliver signature therapies. The 50-minute signature treatment stands out, a deep and soothing face and body massage using scented oils inspired by the property’s seaside gardens. For a truly indulgent experience, the extended pamper session comprises multiple stages, incorporating various specialized formulas. For something a bit different, try the Japanese-inspired ritual featuring a special scrub and ethereal foot massage.

To Stay

Each of the Marbella Club’s elegantly appointed rooms, suites, and villas are designed in a refined Andalusian style, featuring soothing shades of white and cream. They successfully combine contemporary minimalism with ornate tradition, retaining an old-world grandeur. Accommodations facing the sea offer spectacular views and are certainly worth the upgrade if you can stretch to it.

To Eat

Where to start with the food! This is Mediterranean cuisine at its finest. The hotel boasts several dining venues, including the renowned Beach Club, the legendary El Grill restaurant, and the relaxed MC Beach, each offering fresh, local specialties in picturesque settings.

For unwinding, there’s the atmospheric Summer Bar, and for al fresco dining with sea views, head to La Terraza.

The Marbella Club is set in a stunning location on Marbella’s golden mile and enjoys a beachfront location, a striking mountain view and immaculate lush gardens. A white promenade, lined with palm trees, is situated adjacent to the hotel and with beautiful people walking their dogs or honing their beach bodies.

The hotel was once owned by legendary playboy Prince Alfonso von Hohenloe, where he firmly cemented its place amongst the international jet set by creating a glamorous retreat that played host to such esteemed guests as Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot and Roger Moore. The hotel has firmly moved with the times but still retains its old school glitz and glamour, mixed perfectly with authentic Spanish charm.

The Spa

The main focal point of the Thalasso spa is the incredible 800 square metre dynamic seawater pool which draws pure mineral-rich waters directly from the sea. The spa benefits from 12 treatment rooms, hamman steam baths and Finnish saunas.

Even if you aren’t having treatments the spa lounge, with a window to the deep blue sea, provides a relaxing setting to devour a magazine and enjoy one of the delicious teas that the spa provides. I loved the refreshing lemongrass and ginger.

The spa uses a variety of leading brands including pioneering German skincare brand Barbor, Morjana Cosmetiques, Thalion Cosmetics, and popular Spanish brand Natura bisse. I loved the feel and smell of their detox body balm.

The Treatment

I tried the Vichy exfoliating treatment. As you relax on the treatment bed, warm seawater rain is sprinkled on your body, as your skin is firmly exfoliated with salts and oils. My skin is exceptionally dry and I have lost count of the number of times a therapist has asked me if I use moisturiser (I do!), but after this treatment and combined with the effects of the dynamic seawater pool I can honestly say that my skin has never felt softer or more nourished.

Other Treatments

Anti Jet-Lag Body Treatment – If you arrive feeling stressed, as many of us do after rushing around to complete that pre holiday checklist, and are in need of some total relaxation, head to the spa for the anti jet-lag body treatment. It combined the application of a spine mud wrap, a relaxing scalp massage and reflexology foot massage to ease away stress and help you switch off.

The Programme

The Marbella Club has launched an incredible range of wellness programmes which focus on both the body and mind.

  • Body Rebalance
  • Performance
  • Beauty
  • Emotional Rebalance
  • Mediterranean Lifestyle

To Stay

In line with the charm and character of the resort the villas have been built in typical Andalusian style amongst jasmine scented gardens. We stayed in a garden suite with an outdoor furnished terrace. The rooms are decorated using a natural pallet and whilst they are contemporary they are still very much in keeping with the authentic surroundings. The marble bathroom is gorgeous, and the orange and tangerine in room products by Natura Bisse smell divine. A perfect space for a little pre dinner pampering!

To Eat

The buzzy Beach Club with a pool and sea view serves a daily buffet, and in summer months there is also the addition of MC Beach a stylish chiringuito, serving fresh seafood and delicious gourmet salads.

Popular with the glamorous locals throughout the year the MC Café offers Euro Asian fusion cuisine in an informal fashionable setting.

The buffet breakfast is served in the winter garden and every need is catered for with eggs made to order, gluten free options and a choice of delicious organic cold pressed juice smoothies.

The Grill for dinner is decadent with beautiful silverware and the waiters dressed in white jackets adding to the feeling of old school glamour. The restaurant is candlelit and intimate creating a romantic ambience. In the summer evenings you can dine in the twinkling garden. Start your evening off with a glass of champagne in the sophisticated art deco Champagne Room or finish it off with a cocktail or two… you get the feeling that you don’t want to go to bed in case you miss an impromptu party or an intriguing guest.

In peak season be sure to make your restaurant reservations in advance – these are the places to be seen!

For the Kids

Your children will be entertained and stimulated at the most fabulous kids’ club I have ever encountered. It includes a dance studio, a music room, a library, an art and pottery area, an enchanted forest, a vegetable garden, a cooking area, and an entertainment area. Beware – they may not want to leave!

Don’t Miss

  • The group wellness activities, such as cooking lessons, beach walking and yoga, which are complimentary to all guests
  • Horse riding at the Marbella Club equestrian center, a truly magical experience, with breathing taking views all the way to Gibraltar
  • Biking along the promenade
  • Yoga on the pier
