Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve
Bali, Indonesia
Surrounded by dense jungle along the sacred Ayung River in the rolling hills of Ubud, Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve is a strikingly beautiful retreat that offers the ultimate in secluded tropical escapism immersed in Balinese culture.
Built into the Ayung Valley’s slopes that sweep down to the river, the resort’s central building is a construction of upscale Indonesian architecture encircled by heart-stoppingly exquisite gardens, with the thatched villas enveloped amongst the verdant vegetation.
The island’s culture and tradition is central to Mandapa’s DNA, and the interiors are a blend of traditional and contemporary Balinese style, with the whole place crafted to reflect and embrace the surrounding tropical landscape.
Here, you’ll find beyond impeccable service from your own personal butler at your beck and call 24 hours a day. Known as a Patih, they’ll arrange any reservations in the restaurants or spa and drive you there in a golf buggy – the resort sprawls across 25 acres. They’ll even drive you on a guided tour of the surrounding area or take you river rafting.
For any little ones in tow, there’s also a children’s club based in the bamboo Mandapa Camp in the rice paddies, which offers a range of fun-filled activities as well as an educational farm, where they can help look after the resort’s cows, chickens and ducks.
For guests of all ages, there are group Balinese dance lessons, nature walks, plant studies and cultural excursions, as well as complimentary Jeeps to shuttle guests to and from the nearby town of Sayan and its fashionable clothing shops, buzzing street markets and cool cafes.
Focusing on three core pillars – wellness, gastronomy, and sustainability – Mandapa prides itself on creating an immersive experience for guests seeking renewal, culinary discovery and a connection to the local environment.
It all adds up to a transformative escape in a secluded and magical jungle paradise that’s the very height of luxury.
Disconnect to Reconnect
Disconnect to Reconnect
If you’re looking for a fully immersive wellness experience in the lap of luxury, look no further. The Disconnect to Reconnect programme at Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, is designed to help you detach from the hustle and bustle of daily life and reconnect with nature, allowing a transformative retreat that encompasses Ubud’s spiritual energy. Influenced by Balinese culture, the programme offers a holistic approach to healing the mind, body and soul through authentic experiences.
The unique programme offers a tailored choice of therapies including sleep therapy, meditation, Pilates, Watsu (a deeply relaxing combination of water therapy and Shiatsu massage to enhance physical and emotional wellbeing), breathwork, acupuncture, tai chi and gong bath therapy. It aims to encourage mindfulness, inner reflection and immersion in nature in order to rejuvenate the mind, body and soul.
In addition, Balinese rituals on offer include Vipassana (a form of Buddhist meditation that focuses on cultivating mindfulness through observation of the breath and bodily sensations) and Melukat Geni – a transformative Balinese ritual that unites the cleansing power of holy water (Tirta) with the purifying energy of fire (Geni). Rooted in ancient spiritual traditions, this experience is designed to release negative energy, emotional burdens and past attachments through a deeply symbolic ceremony guided by a trained healer, or Pemangku (Balinese priest).
The Homa Yajna Fire Blessing Ritual is a sacred Balinese healing fire ceremony originating from ancient Vedic texts. It is a process of purifying unwanted beliefs, habits or thought patterns and transforming them into positive energy. This fire-healing ritual is known to be effective in helping one let go of unwanted aspects of life and manifest new intentions and a new beginning. The ritual begins with meditation around an altar of fire, accompanied by the ringing of a Balinese bell and the chanting of Sanskrit mantras for health and abundance. Fruits, grains, lentils and other foods are ceremoniously offered as participants seek spiritual purity and harmony.
Among the distinguished in-house healers at the retreat is Ibu Ketut Mursi, an extraordinary blind healer renowned for her profound intuitive awareness and healing touch. Ibu Ketut Mursi works harmoniously with her assistant, Ibu Kis, to realign and release blocked energy patterns through bodywork or reflexology. A truly unique experience, the session takes place in one of the spa treatment rooms, with the soothing sound of the Ayung River flowing in the background. A skilled spa therapist performs a Balinese foot ritual designed to cleanse negative energy, setting the stage for a deeply memorable experience. The session includes sound healing, a rejuvenating head massage, and a guided journey of self-discovery, to find inner peace and balance. The transformative experience opens up new ways for guests to improve their health and well-being.
The Mandapa Spa, situated on the banks of the river, is a supremely serene spot and the embodiment of Ubud, Bali’s spiritual heartland, which has long been a destination for wellness and healing. The spa features five elegantly appointed treatment rooms, with three specifically designed for couples, and there’s a dizzying array of scrubs, wraps, massages and facials to choose from. In addition to the array of Balinese massages and skincare treatments, there are also manis, pedis, scalp and hair treatments and make up services on offer.
Spa facilities include male and female sauna and steam rooms, as well as a grooming parlour, relaxation areas and a state of the art gym, which is open 24 hours a day. At the riverside yoga pavilion complimentary classes are offered twice a day.
