Lanserhof Sylt

Sylt, Germany

The Lanserhof brand is iconic in the wellness world for a very good reason. More than just a wellbeing retreat; it’s the start of a journey towards optimal health and longevity.

Lanserhof Sylt is the newest gem in the brand’s collection. Situated on Sylt, the largest North Frisian island, which stretches to Denmark on Germany’s North coastline, it’s surrounded by pristine beaches and the Wadden Sea. Connected to the mainland by the 11km Hindenburg Dam, Lanserhof Sylt merges medical precision with natural beauty. It’s a bit of a trek to get to, especially in winter, but the travel is more than worth it.

Designed by award-winning German architect Christoph Ingenhoven, the entire property features sustainable materials like stone, concrete and untreated wood. The smooth, flowing architecture, free of corners and edges, instantly sets you at ease. A highlight is the free-standing, circular staircase spread over five floors, which spans 14 metre and sits at the heart of the resort.

The whole place feels natural and a little bit wild thanks to the dunes, the sea, the horizon and the sky combining to create a magical atmosphere. Look out for the complimentary teal-coloured Birkenstocks – so chic they’ve become collector’s items!

If you want to focus on your body’s wellbeing for a healthier, longer life in the lap of modern luxury, Lanserhof Sylt ticks all the boxes.

Medical & Wellness Centre

Walking into the medical clinic at Lanershof Sylt is like stepping into a spaceship. Everything is crisp, white and pristine – the floors, walls, furniture, equipment, even the staff’s uniforms. It’s here, in the 5,000sqm treatment area, where Lanserhof Sylt truly excels. Personalised programme are part and parcel of the Lanserhof Concept, each strives to see people in their entirety – and treat them accordingly. Honed over three decades to integrate naturopathy, energy medicine, psychology, psychoneuroimmunology and cutting-edge Western medicine the Lanserhof Concept treats illness and promotes overall optimum health.

Facilities are vast and comprehensive, with everything you’d expect from a high-end spa including a saltwater pool, yoga studio, sauna and steam rooms. You’ll also find a cutting-edge gym space and a fitness space complete with a climbing wall. On the medical side, there are CT and ultrasound scanners, ECG monitors, IV lounges and colonic hydrotherapy suites. The facilities embrace a thoroughly holistic approach paired with state-of-the-art diagnostics and extensive physical and psychological assessments.

But it’s the programming that stands out as truly unique. Whatever your issue, Lanserhof has a programme to suit your needs – performance, longevity, women’s health, stress resilience, long Covid and even a breast cancer rehab programme. Treatments range from cryotherapy to lymphatic drainage and Shiatsu to craniosacral therapy.

Derma treatments will form a key component of any stay, as the skin is the largest organ of the body, so plays an essential role in detoxification. In partnership with Augustinus Bader and Pharmos Natur treatments include facials, massages, mesotherapy, body wraps and scrubs.

To Stay

The 55 guest suites at Lanserhof Sylt occupy a thatch-topped structure shaped like a W, with glass walls. Mirroring the surrounding nature, each suite offers a secluded space for private, holistic relaxation. While the design is minimal, the atmosphere is inviting, contemporary and comfortable. The architecture of the whole property was conceived to be health-promoting and harmonious, and the suites are no exception. You’ll notice there’s very little clutter – no pictures on the walls, no ambient background music. All conceived, to cleverly startle our permanently over-stimulated brains into relaxing.

To Eat

The dining room is light and elegant, with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the sea and dunes. Here, you and your gut will be treated to the Lanserhof fasting cure, based on the methods of Austrian doctor F.X. Mayr, to help regenerate the intestines through detoxification and purification. Be prepared to chew each mouthful 40 times and not to drink anything while eating to aid digestion. Lanserhof’s cuisine combines fresh, local, seasonal produce with modern nutritional research. It may be sparse, but it’s delicious – guests are evangelical about the broth.
