Monaco, home of the rich and famous and ‘me’, well for one weekend anyway…

‘Home’ was the stunning Metropole Monte Carlo, one of the few independently owned hotels in the principality, and a member of the Leading Hotels of the World. This stunning Belle Époque hotel was built in 1889 and is located in the heart of Monaco close to Casino Square. This era was dedicated to the pleasures of refined vacationing, and fast forward to the modern day and the same remains true with the hotel boasting one of the most highly prized addresses on the Côte d’Azur.

As you enter the tree lined avenue leading to the hotel you cannot fail to be impressed by the sheer beauty of the building, and as you step inside the lobby you are met with floral installations which can only be described as works of art.
You know when the restaurants are by world famous chef Joel Robouchon, who has garnered the most Michelin stars in the world, the spa is by French fashion house Givenchy and the pool area designed by Fashion royalty Karl Lagerfeld, that this is a hotel seriously committed to delivering a world class experience to its guests’.

Spa Metropole by Givenchy

The spa is just as chic as the rest of the hotel. Designed by acclaimed interior designer Didier Gomez, the Spa Metropole by Givenchy is uber luxe and is dedicated to well-being and beauty. The stunning corridors are lined with lanterns and woodland imagery is projected onto the walls to create a luxurious but soothing ambience. Each spa treatment is designed to be a “haute couture” experience. The spa offers 10 treatment cabins including two private suites with chromo-therapy bathtubs and facilities such as a sauna, Hammam, caldarium, ice fountain and sensory showers. It also boasts a Fitness Studio with all the latest equipment as well as a Pedi:Mani:Cure studio by Bastien Gonzalez. A dedicated Givenchy beauty store brings together all the brand`s products, from makeup and skincare to fragrances.

The Treatment

Le Soin Noir Signature Facial Treatment – 90 mins. The spa experience begins with a consultation designed to help the therapist personalise your treatment. You even get to select your preferred scent from the L’Atelier de Givenchy Fragrance Collection, which is sprayed onto a linen square and inserted into the pocket of your robe. This signature facial is designed to ensure skin appears more luminous and smoother. The treatment ended with a luxurious massage which added to the overall experience.

The huge bathrooms have massage jet showers, large bathtubs, double-hand basins and ample products by Hermès . To Eat

With two Michelin stars, Restaurant Joël Robuchon Monte-Carlo specialises in refined dishes with Mediterranean flavours and is a destination restaurant in Monaco. Guests can see the chefs in action with an open style kitchen looking out to the dining room. The meal I enjoyed as a vegetarian was a feast for the eyes as well as the taste buds. I chose the beetroot apple duo with avocado, bitter salad and green mustard sorbet, a risotto style rice with pimientos, delicately perfumed with saffron and salicornia couscous, and a divine le pop fraise cheesecake. In the summer months request a table on the fabulous terrace.

The lobby bar – enjoy Robuchon’s signature ‘spicy lobster and French fries’.

Yoshi – Yoshi embodies chic and understated décor and opens out to a Japanese -inspired garden. Yoshi was awarded a Michelin star just 15 months after opening and serves the most incredible sushi, maki , sashimi, teppan-yaki meat and fish.

Odyssey – This glamorous poolside restaurant is an oasis in the heart of Monte-Carlo. The heated sea-water pool and terrace sit against a mural of Greek heroes, designed by Karl Lagerfeld, to create an exquisite backdrop.
