The Treatment

The wonderful couples ‘Spa Trail’ begins with a consultation to determine the blend of oils used in a bespoke massage. Spa manager and trained aromatherapist Jo blends the scents specifically for each guests needs, be it relaxation, de-stress or rejuvenation.

A private swim in the candle-lit pool and use of the thermal cabin and steam, is followed by a stroll to the treatment cabin for a wonderfully relaxing aromatherapy full body massage. Post treatment we’re taken down to The Boat House to relax by the roaring fire and served green tea. The treatment ends with a dip in the bubbling lakeside hot tub where champagne is served. The Spa Trail is one of the most bespoke spa rituals I’ve found – completely private, and breathtakingly romantic, in an idyllic lakeland setting.

At Gilpin Hotel all of the bedrooms have lovely Lakeland views, most leading directly onto the gardens – 6 with their own cedarwood hot tubs, and 5 fabulous new detached Spa Lodges, each with their own ensuite spa (rainmaker showers and steam rooms inside, hydrotherapy hot tubs and saunas outside).

Just a mile away from Gilpin Hotel you’ll find Gilpin Lake House, where just 6 rooms exclusively enjoy 100 acres of grounds.

We stayed in Adgie, a large ‘New England’ style room housed in The Lake House, beautifully designed and sumptuously furnished with muted tones of mints, white and greys. There’s an incredibly comfy king size bed, seating and dressing area and a bathroom with a walk in monsoon shower and a good selection of own brand products.
