Constance Moofushi is a tiny island situated in the South Ari Atoll region, widely regarded as one of the best diving and snorkelling spots in the world.

Known as ‘The Jewel Island’ – there’s definitely some magical about the petit paradise island – a haven of sand-between-toes meets Crusoe-chic elegance. It’s my second visit and I’m pleased to report it’s still one of my absolute favourite destinations in archipelago – and I’ve been lucky enough to visit a few.

Attentive white-clad staff buzz around hypnotised guests, all sporting the same dazzling grins – you can’t help but join them. Our villa host shows us to our room. “I’ve worked at lots of luxury resorts in the Indian Ocean over the years, there’s definitely something special about this one,” she says. She’s right.

U Spa by Constance

U Spa by Constance is a short walk from the main resort, through a serene tropical garden and chill-out zone. Set across eight water villas, facilities include six open-sided treatment rooms and two couples rooms, all with glass bottom floors and sea views.

A large relaxation deck with bean bags and day beds offer stunning sunset views, and a fully-equipped gym and yoga pagoda are a short stroll away.

The Treatment

As my skin hadn’t seen the sun for a while I opted for the YMALIA Body Scrub to prepare! My therapist used a mix of grainy pearl powder and caviar honey in combination with invigorating massage techniques to eliminates dead skin cells and activate my skin.

My newly de-scaled skin was left smooth, luminous – and with an application of suncream – completely ray-ready.

Other Treatments

Sophro Energising Body Sculpting Treatment – relaxes and energises at the same time, thereby stimulating and rebalancing energy points. It helps to increase prana (the vital breath).

Ayurvedic Massage – Ancient techniques to bring balance to the energy centres to soothe the body and mind.

To Stay

We stayed in one of the beautiful Maldivian water villas overlooking the lagoon. Contemporary in style, with a charming ‘thatch and rope’ rustic edge, a large open plan bedroom with king size bed and chaise longue, leads on to the private deck with loungers, an outdoor shower and steps leading directly down to the lagoon.

To the rear is a large bathroom with twin rustic stone sinks and a part-outdoor monsoon shower with sublime lagoon views.

Facilities in all rooms include: mini-bar with all-inclusive wine, beer, soft drinks and snacks. Flat screen TV, Mac-mini, complimentary Wi-Fi, iPod dock and own-brand toiletry products. There’s also a turn-down service with petit fours.

To Eat

Manta is a sand-on-toes buffet restaurant that serves a “Trip around the world” buffet – as well as offerings from the nightly theme – you’ll find everything from delicious Maldivian fish curries and Italian wood-fired pizza. Should you want to enjoy the crystal-clear waters of the Indian Ocean whilst dining the eatery has a handy over water dining deck!

Alize is a grill restaurant located a few metres from the sea on the white sandy beach and has a casual and relaxed atmosphere. The menu offers a selection of all time favourites such as pizza, hamburgers as well as grilled fish & meats. The beach grill also serves a vast selection of seafood dishes, amongst other specialties.

Totem Bar – my husband’s ‘favourite bar in the world’ – is in an idyllic setting right on the beach under a heavy canopy of indigenous trees. Dressed with ethnic furniture carved out of driftwood – it really is one of the most perfect settings in the world (IMO) to enjoy the ultimate laid-back lunch. Oh, and one of their coconut cocktails is a ‘must have’ to wash it down.

Don’t Miss

  • The Snorkelling Extravaganza Trip which takes you on a traditional Dhoni (Maldivian boat) to two stunning coral reefs where you can spot turtles, manta rays, parrotfish and, if you’re lucky, baby sharks!
  • Wine and cheese tasting with the wonderfully passionate house sommelier, Romain.
