Cliveden House is a privately owned award-winning hotel, and sister to the Chewton Glen Hotel & Spa in Hampshire.
Steeped in a rich history, it was built in 1666 by the Second Duke of Buckingham as a place for entertaining his friends and mistresses. When Cliveden was bought by the Waldorf-Astor family in the 1800s, its reputation as a party house continued and everyone from Winston Churchill to Charlie Chaplin are said to have graced its doors. Most famously, it was at Cliveden in 1961 that John Profumo met Christine Keeler.
The Grade I listed stately home is set upon 376 acres of National Trust grounds and is enriched throughout with antique furniture and beautiful period features. In addition to being a fantastic venue for a romantic or restorative wellness break, the spa at Cliveden provides an opportunity to rebalance and de-stress, offering a range of facilities and treatment experiences that will to leave you feeling like royalty.
The Spa
Cliveden House Spa
Hidden behind the brick walls of the garden and enveloped by tumbling scented roses and lavender, the spa at Cliveden is a tranquil oasis, offering a genuine sense of wellbeing and relaxation.
A steam room and infrared sauna line the sublime indoor pool, while in the garden are outdoor hot tubs and the ‘Profumo’ pool, the last remaining listed outdoor pool in England, made famous by the 1960s political scandal. Indoor and outdoor tennis courts are available for use, while a purpose-built fitness studio offers a timetable of classes that include Pilates, HIIT, yoga and Tai Chi.
The history of Cliveden is not only present in its facilities but also informs a selection of signature body treatments: Anna-Maria, for whom Cliveden was originally built, and Nancy Astor, one of its most famous residents, are strong women whose names are given to fragrances in in the spa’s own product range.
OSKIA’s nutritional skincare expertise is also incorporated in the treatment menu, with bespoke facials offered to suit all skin types. In addition, award-winning CBD products by OTO are used in rituals including relaxing massages and an immersive overnight Sleep Experience. Finishing touches are available courtesy of The Studio, which provides a full range of mani-pedi services.
When it’s time for refreshment, head to The Spa Kitchen, situated in a quiet corner of the spa overlooking the ‘Profumo’ pool, for flavoursome and nutritional dishes, and freshly made smoothies and juices.
