Review – We Check in to the Bürgenstock Resort & Alpine Spa, Switzerland
Perched high above Lake Lucerne, the Bürgenstock Resort is a cutting-edge sanctuary of modern luxury, innovative design and holistic wellness. Surrounded by lush forests and snow-capped peaks and offering panoramic lake views, this architectural gem blends seamlessly into the landscape and provides one of Switzerland’s most exclusive spa experiences…

Accessed by a private catamaran followed by a scenic ride on the famous Bürgenstock funicular, the journey to the resort is as impressive as the destination itself.
The resort features three luxury hotels, multiple bars and restaurants, two spas and a museum showcasing its rich and colourful heritage. Notable past guests include Charlie Chaplin, Sophia Loren, and Sean Connery. Audrey Hepburn was married in the resort’s tiny chapel…

Interiors at the Bürgenstock Hotel are quite simply stunning – blending natural materials with a sleek, modern design – without compromising on comfort.
Rooms and suites epitomise quiet luxury, with floor-to-ceiling windows – ensuring the focus remains on the breathtaking lake and Alpine views. Contemporary Lake View Spa Suites come equipped with a private sauna and massage room, a lounge area, and double views of the lake and mountains.

High-end eateries are dotted across the resort and include Spices Kitchen & Terrace. Awarded 16 Gault & Millau points, the restaurant serves as the hotel’s breakfast room by morning and a pan-Asian dining destination by night. Its elevated design offers a 360° view over the lake and makes you feel like you’re dining mid-air. Service is impeccable. Laid back dining options include The Lakeside Lounge and The Oak Grill.

The Alpine Spa at the Bürgenstock Hotel is nothing short of extraordinary, offering a comprehensive approach to wellness inspired by the natural beauty surrounding it.
Spanning 10,000 square metres over two floors, the spa delivers a harmonious blend of state-of-the-art facilities and results-driven therapies. Offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Alps and Lake Lucerne, there’s a whole host of hydrothermal experiences, including Kneipp baths, panoramic saunas, aromatic steam baths, cold plunge pools and the iconic, highly Instagrammable, infinity-edge pool.

Harnessing the transformative power of hot and cold therapies, the Hydrothermal Journeys take centre stage at the spa. Curated by wellness experts, the collection of self-guided journeys – Activate, Regenerate and Relax – are designed to soothe muscles, revitalise the mind and body and alleviate fatigue.
Opting for Regenerate, my thermal circuit began with a few leisurely lengths in the lap pool, followed by an invigorating stroll along the Kneipp Path – a sensory contrast of warm and cool waters designed to stimulate circulation. Next came the floating bath experience. Suspended weightlessly in the starlit room, I could have drifted for hours, but the journey beckoned me onwards to an exhilarating contrast of icy plunges and deeply soothing saunas.
Finally, I headed to the relaxation area. Cocooned in a blanket with a hydrating herbal tea in hand, skin tingling and senses sharpened, the journey had worked its magic.

Offering everything from bespoke facials to holistic body rituals, the spa’s Beauty Lounge partners with prestigious skincare brands such as 111Skin, Dr. Burgener, Swiss Perfection, Dr. Barbara Sturm, AMRA and KOS Paris.
One of the standout treatments is the Dr. Burgener Lifting and Firming Collagen Facial. Performed by facialist Cyprienne, the treatment incorporates collagen-boosting ingredients to improve firmness and hydration. The collagen sheet mask was particularly effective and left my skin feeling lifted with a noticeable glow.

Another notable treatment is the AMRA Pure Rarity Body Ritual. The 90-minute treatment, provided by therapist Waewdee, includes a full-body cleanse and exfoliation, followed by a nourishing body wrap. The ritual continues with an indulgent, sleep-inducing, 24-carat gold hot stone massage. A refreshing body spritz awakens your body and gently brings your mind back in to the room.
