Review – Buccal & TMJ Massage at Teresa Tarmey, London
Teresa Tarmey’s all-white sanctuary on Kensington Park Road, tucked just behind my beloved Portobello Road, is a masterclass in calm — and this is such a beautiful space to experience a treatment with no needles, no chemicals, no gadgetry. Just expert hands — and, uniquely, fingers inside your mouth. Sounds weird. But it is so clever, and so effective.
After badly broken bones while travelling abroad for work, two rounds of general anaesthetic for surgery, and the kind of perimenopause that leaves you puffy-faced and quietly despairing over a softening jawline, this Buccal & TMJ massage was quite literally just what the doctor ordered. I wanted to recommend it to anyone curious about simpler, more natural facial fixes.
The treatment works through advanced intraoral and external massage, deep into the facial and jaw muscles. My facialist at the Notting Hill clinic explained that you can actually hear the lymphatic system draining — and the discomfort as she worked into the fascia sits in what I found to be a satisfying pleasure-pain sweet spot. It’s intense in a good way: you can feel that something genuinely transformative is happening. It targets deeper muscle layers to ease clenching (a revelation for anyone who’s a jaw-grinder), stimulates circulation and lymphatic flow, and works both inside and outside the lower half of the face to lift, tone, and restore natural alignment. I emerged tighter around the jaw, lighter through the face, and wondering why I had not clocked about this wonder-worker sooner.
I’d been seeing so much on socials about the need to release our fascia — the connective tissue web that wraps around everything — and my therapist explained in simple terms why the gentle rhythmic drainage strokes move lymphatic fluid in a way the best lotions and creams simply can’t reach. What I’m learning is how tightly the jaw and the nervous system are wired together — and it must help reduce the tendency towards stress headaches, too.
Teresa Tarmey is well known for good reason as the UK’s best super-facialist. And this costs a heck of a lot less money, time and rehabilitation than a Kris Jenner-style facelift. It’s extra satisfying to hold your head up high knowing they’ve worked with nature and a wonderfully non-invasive technique to leave your face feeling firmer and fresher in under an hour.
